MORE RUSSIAN HELMETS
PAINTED INSIGNIA AND OTHER VARIANTS
1) Undocumented variant SSsh40, exactly like the WWII production, 3 pad liner and rivited web chinstrap. Liner is BROWN, not the standard black. Size 1 (small) dated 1954, a few scratches on the paint of the shell, but no rust. Overall condition: VGC-EXC...1 only...45.00 + 8 s/h
2) Painted insignia (see p. 65 of "Russian Helmets" by Robert W. Clawson) Painted large red star with yellow border and yellow hammer and sickle. Insignia has been painted over with a light coat of OD. Star is clearly visible as is. Scuffs and scrapes to the paint. Light rust inside shell. Shell only, no liner or chinstrap. Size 1, dated 1953....SOLD s/h
3) Same as #2 above, paint over the star somewhat heavier, but the star is still easily visible. Size 2 , dated 1960....40.00 + 8 s/h....SOLD
RUSSIAN SSsh40 SIZE 3 HELMETS
WE HAVE 2 AVAILABLE...VERY HARD TO FIND
1) Size 3, date hard to read, but it looks like 1948. Date has been written over with cyrillic writing in pen...possibly the former owners name? Large yellow bordered red star on front has been painted over with another coat of OD, but the star is visible. 50's / 60's era 3 point leather chinstrap. Helmet has been pierced by what appears to have been a bullet. Entrance hole in front by the leg of star, exit hole over one of the back rivits. Bullet pierced the rear pad of the 3 pad liner. Cord connecting the liner pads has been replaced with twine. I could replace chinstrap with WWII style--contact us for a quote...AS IS...50.00 + 8 s/h...SOLD
2) size 3, 1948 dated, pads are ok, (3 pad liner) chinstrap is rust stained, buckle is rusty. Interior is about 75% surface rust (no pitting) exterior is about 40% surface rust (no pitting) ...AS IS...50.00 + 8 s/h see photo to the right......sold
I can repaint, and or replace chinstrap, etc. Ask for a quote on what you want done. DATE AND SIZE STAMP WILL NOT SURVIVE A REPAINT !!!
